I have taught A Level History for twelve years in a sixth form college and I have been tutoring online for two. I am dedicated to helping young people reach their potential and in 2018, my students averaged one grade higher than their predicted A Level grades. I have a great deal of experience in working one-to-one with students and I always aim to make my tutorials enjoyable and supportive, whilst encouraging great progress with both coursework and exam preparation. I have also assisted over a hundred students with their Oxbridge applications, and I work closely with university admission tutors. I am experienced in helping students prepare personal statements and applications, as well as in providing mock interviews and advice on admissions tests.
I am a qualified and experienced history teacher as well as A Level examiner/marker. I have taught students to the highest level, achieving grade 9s at GCSE and A*s at A Level, including those who have found elements of the subject challenging. I have experience for several exam boards and multiple topics and have also taught the coursework element of the A Level, with my marking being described as 'exemplary' by the moderators. History is a subject that everyone is able to succeed in and I believe in making the tasks seem as simple as possible, breaking down exam techniques into easy strategies and focusing on useful, relevant content. I have a Master's degree in history and am currently studying for a PhD, focusing on 17th Century England.

My degree at Oxford was in History so I spent a lot of time in the one-on-one tutorials, and so also understand the tutee experience. I am organised and work hard on making my teaching fun and dynamic so that classes are as productive and enjoyable as possible! The relationship between students and tutor is really important for me.

I've been tutoring for a very long time, which has given me experience working with all manner of students: at school I was a Higher Education mentor and I tutored reading and essay skills in a Paired Reading Challenge; whilst pursuing my BA, I was coordinator for GCSE English Revision sessions, responsible both for preparing GCSE English classes and training my fellow tutors. I was also the Core Skills lecturer at my university's Summer University programme, where I lectured on essential skills for Higher Education such as essay writing, academic research, and presentation skills. I spent the summer of 2015 teaching English to Italian schoolchildren, aged 11-13, at a fully immersive English summer camp in Veneto. I recently tutored a a pre-university student through her applications to an English Literature undergraduate degree, where I prepared her for transitioning from English as a subject in the French educational system to the demands and expectations of studying Literature at Bachelor's level.
In particular, I trust that what makes me a good tutor is that I am an enthusiastic communicator. I quickly develop effective relationships with my students, and I am very supportive of their academic endeavours. I believe that teachers always have a pastoral responsibility for their students. This means that my students are always eager to learn, as their apprehensions about the subject lessen and their confidence grows.
Hello :) I specialise in particular to University students, MA and PhD studies. My students feel empowered and like they know what they are doing after our lessons, and I like to help them get on a good start! Its all about giving the right tools- showing the right way to study to students! I really like teaching and feeling like I can help students reach their goals!
